Ways to Donate

Credit and Debit Cards
Pledge payments and other donations can be charged to your VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express card online through the St. Thomas website. You have options to make a one-time donation or set up recurring donations. To access online giving, open the St. Thomas website at www.stthomasabingdon.dioswva.org and click on “Donate,” found on the right side of the home page above the banner pictures, and click on the drop-down menu.

Checks
Checks and money orders can be placed in the offering plate or mailed to 124 East Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia 24210.

Cash
Cash can be placed in the offering plate either as loose cash or inside an envelope. To receive credit for cash donations, put the cash in an envelope with the donor name noted on the envelope.

Automatic Drafts
You can pay your pledge through automatic deductions from your checking or savings account. This can be done using your bank’s bill pay service, your own bill pay system, or by using the online recurring donation option on our website. To set up automatic draft using our website, open the St. Thomas website at www.stthomasabingdon.dioswva.org and click on “Donate,” found on the right side of the home page above the banner pictures. Once on the Online Donation page you can set up your donation amount and frequency to match your pledge. Contact our Financial Administrator, Mary McCoy, at 276-628-3606 or mmccoy@bvu.net for more information.

Stocks or Mutual Funds
Transferring stocks or mutual funds to St. Thomas offers additional tax savings. You avoid capital gains taxes and receive a tax deduction for your charitable donation. The Church will sell the stock immediately and your annual giving statement will reflect the amount of the sale. This amount may be different than the fair market value (FMV) used for your tax purposes. We recommend you contact your tax adviser for more information.

Qualified Charitable Distributions
If you are at least 70 ½ years old and have a Traditional IRA, you have the option of making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). A QCD is a nontaxable distribution made directly by the trustee of your IRA to St. Thomas. QCDs count as IRA distributions and can be used to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD). The maximum annual amount is $100,000. Any QCD in excess of the $100,000 limit is included in income as any other distribution. QCDs are only available for Traditional IRA plans. They are not available for SEP IRA (Simplified Employee Pension) plans or SIMPLE IRA plans. Please contact your tax adviser for more information..
